Any significant collection of LEGO bricks can soon get out of hand. If you want to build things or make your own creations you need to be able to organize and find the right brick at the right time.
I use the plastic slider-seal storage plastic bags. They come in three sizes suitable to all sizes of LEGO. Sort bricks by color…and sometimes type. Amazon has Hefty Slider Storage bags ins Quart and Gallon or Jumbo sizes. Target has similar slider-seal storage bags in pink Up & Up brand boxes.

You can store completed models in the larger bags as well for transportation. When zipped up the bags have a cushion of air in them and any pieces that break off end up in the bag with the model they came from.
Very small pieces and mini figure parts can be stored in tool organizer boxes with many compartments and lids.

Then I store the plastic bags and boxes within clear plastic storage bins with latches. They can be stacked on top of each other. 32 Quart clear plastic storage bins work well for nearly everything. You can easily see what is inside.

I label the boxes using white gaffer tape…

and write on it with a black sharpie marker…

I’ve also found the following Acrylic Risers Display Stand to be great for smaller models and minifigs on shelves. You’ll see it in some of my collection photos.
