2002 Slovakia Mission Trip

In 2002 a team from Church of the Open Door went on a short-term mission trip to central Slovakia to work with the Church School of Petrzalka (Bratislava) at a nature camp. There were about 60 kids from ages 11 to 16 years old. We provided teaching, sports, crafts, drama, music and chapel services to round out the school’s planned program.

I personally had a chance to share my magic and juggling by performing and teaching.

I also have several hours more video available.

Note from Tom Johnson 1/21/2021:

Each of you, in big or small ways, contributed to the ministry of GoodSports that continues in Slovakia 19 years later. This summer will be the celebration of 25 years of GoodSports’ summer camps.

  • Kids we served at the School in Nature camp (in partnership with Laci and Mark) have grown and many now have their own children.
  • Through Open Door, we helped the school survive (it was touch and go the years we were there) and it’s now thriving.
  • The High School moved into a separate building and is now called C.S. Lewis bi-lingual gymnasium (High School)
  • The Elementary School K-8 occupies the same building as Narnia bi-lingual elementary school.
  • A graduate of C.S. Lewis High School came to faith in Jesus through her experience in school and involvement with GoodSports.
  • She served four years on staff with GoodSports and left this summer to become an English teacher in a public elementary school.

So many wonderful stories of how God has worked, often slowly, planting, watering and harvesting; and each of you contributed.

Thank You!
